Kyogle township is sited next to the Richmond River which provides the water supply to the township.  Water for the township has been pumped directly from the river to a water treatment plant originally constructed in the 1930’s.  To increase the capacity and performance of the existing water treatment plant, the following infrastructure was constructed: a 200ML off stream storage dam, sludge lagoons, upgrades to pump stations, automation and computer control of the treatment plant processes.

As part of these works, flood mitigation infrastructure was also constructed such as a river breakout channel and utilising the excess material removed from the dam construction to raise the township’s flood levee and rehabilitate two local quarries.  The existing river weir was also replaced with a fish ladder to promote transit to upstream habitat.  NSW Public Works provided Procurement and Tendering services on behalf of Council, with Project Management Services following this phase.
